How Can You Keep Your Child Comfortable When He/She Has Fever?

First of all, you should know how hot is too hot! If your child is less than 3 months of age and has a temperature 100.4° F then you should visit a doctor. Or, if your child is younger than 2 years and the fever lasts for more than 24 hours. Breaking a fever takes time but if you don’t belong to the specified brackets then you can do few things at home too in order to reduce the stress. One can start with a lukewarm sponge bath but stop, if the child starts to shiver. Light clothing and lower room temperatures should be combined with plenty of liquids for the child. Fevers and dehydration can go hand in hand. Have your kids stay away from anything that is soda based as the caffeine content of such drinks can dehydrate them further. Let him or her rest and don’t wake him/her to feed medicines. This can irritate them further. If there is nothing serious (e.g. severe headache, harsh sore throat, severe ear pain, repeated vomiting or diarrhea, unexplained rashes or a stiff neck) then the fever finishes its course in a matter of 2 or 3 days.
